Sunday morning. Today we will finish the last part of the God and Government sermon series in church. I’m quite excited about the message today. The past few weeks’ messages were very challenging and my expectations for what God is going to reveal today is high.
The message last Sunday struck me hard. I’ve known about three types of government many years ago, I even preached that topic in my previous church. In my mind, they are in this particular order: family government, church government and civil government.
What surprised me last Sunday was that there are actually four of them, and the first one is supposed to be SELF- government! As Pastor Gilbert (Foliente, Victory U-Belt) preached on, I sat there in my chair transfixed. How could have I missed this big one? It was a huge revelation to me, like I was finally seeing it all in a whole new light. For the first time, my role in civil affairs finally dawned on me in its proper Christian context.
These are the thoughts that flooded my mind while listening to the message: Filipino society is falling apart because everyone expects the institutions to do something we ourselves are supposed to do. We criticize the government for distributing condoms when the real issue is the morality and unhealthy sexual practices of individual Filipinos. We blame Arroyo for everything that has ever gone wrong in this country but whenever we have to do any transactions with government offices, the first thing we do is find “someone we know” from the inside to help us “speed up” the process.
We blame the pastor if the church is not growing, if the prayer meetings are poorly attended, and when sermons are bland. We blame our parents when they can’t put food on the table and provide us with luxuries like smart phones, laptops and bigger allowance. We blame the media. We blame the PAGASA. We blame MARINA. We blame everyone else.
BUT WE’VE NEVER THOUGHT OF BLAMING OURSELVES FOR ANY OF THE EVILS IN PHILIPPINE SOCIETY. It’s always THEM who’s wrong, not ME. How convenient!

Hi Brother Jojo! We people are always able to pass the blame to others. It's so much easier than being accountable to change things that are problems. It's just so difficult to DO anything, because at times, all our problems seem so overwhelming! Someone else in authority surely must be stronger than I am, so why dont they DO SOMETHING? Change the problem? Then we realize that "they" are simply people just like "we" are, and to make any changes, we all have to agree, then put in the hard work that's necessary! That's difficult to do, and blaming is so much easier! wrestlegod.blogspot.com
I love the story but you are infinging on my copyright. God the Government the Game by Teflon Don please give me my credit when you use it for public uses………….
Mr. Teflon Don, please look at the title of my post again, it's "God, Government, and the BLAME Game." It's entirely different from the title of the work that you are claiming. Surely you are not suggesting that I or anyone else can't use those three words in any order without asking your permission first? Because in that case, I wonder who owns the copyright of "Thank you" and "Good Morning."
Hahahaha. Good Jojo. There goes a self-cetered guy.
Hahaha, I wonder if he's a spammer or what. I'd love to have his opinion about the copyright of Thank You and Good Morning though.
